Maybe your summer beach getaway has come to a close, or maybe getting out of town just wasn’t in the cards this year. No worries! You don’t have to leave your house to have an unforgettable summer. With a little planning and some creativity, you can bring the fun home, to your own backyard.

Here are some ideas to beat the summer blues with this list of backyard activities the whole family will enjoy:
- Host A Mini Olympics: With some simple craft supplies and some imagination, you can set up multi-event mini Olympic games in your own backyard, complete with medals for Bronze, Silver & Gold.
- Sweet Dreams Drive-In: Plan the ultimate backyard getaway by setting up a small projector and screen in the backyard to show a feature film when the sun goes down. Throw blankets and pillows into inflatable baby pools and be sure to have plenty of snacks on hand so you can make a night of it.
- Water Wars: Grab your arsenal of water guns throw in some water balloons and set up an epic backyard battle. Whether it’s parents vs. kids or the traditional girls against boys, go wild with the biggest H2O battle.
- Summer Slide: Take full advantage of a slightly inclined backyard by creating an epic slide. A quick trip to your local home improvement store should score the materials needed to make a killer water slide. Setup a judging table and take turns competing for furthest slide or best technique.
- Barbecue and Lawn Games: Throw some dogs & burgers on the grill and supersize some of your favorite games for a fun evening of food and competition. You can purchase or even make some of your games in a life-size version and set them up all around your lawn. Take on your kids in a nail-biting game of Jenga or take on your spouse in a little corn hole. Throw some homemade ice cream in as a party and no one will want to leave.
- S’mores Bar: Turn your fire pit into s’mores central by setting up a buffet of possible ingredients along with sticks to roast the marshmallows. Encourage your guests to come up with their own combinations by providing nontraditional ingredients like caramels, different types of candy bars or cookies. Throw on some summer music and watch your evening light up with laughter.
Summer doesn’t have to be all about expensive trips or non-stop activities. Kids really just want to spend time with their families. It doesn’t take a lot of effort or money to create lasting memories.
