The Planning Process

When planning your deck, ask yourself what makes sense for your budget. A wood deck made of pressure-treated lumber usually costs less than a composite deck, while purchasing a deck made of exotic hardwood can cost more than even the best composite deck.

We prefer drawings before we come out to quote a project, and we offer in-house deck designing services to our existing clients.

A good place to start is to interview a few reputable deck contractors whom you feel you can trust enough to divulge your budget. They can put together realistic specs that will fall within your budget.

Considering Your Options

At TH Construction Group, we specialize in both composite and wood decks. Here is a basic run-down of each.

COMPOSITE DECKS

Trex® Decking offers a wide range of colors and styles for flooring and railing systems. The two most popular Trex Decking options are Trex Transcend® and Trex Select®. Transcend is the top-of-the-line decking. Trex Select offers a very similar product feel. It has fewer floor color options and one color option for rails. The Trex Select line appeals to the more price-conscious homeowner. Regardless of which Trex decking and railing you choose, all Trex products carry the best warranties in the composite deck market.

WOOD DECKS

Wood decks are a great choice for a traditional look. There are many wood species from which to choose, including cedar, mahogany and ipe. Pressure-treated wood is also an option. The deck’s price range depends on the species of wood as well as the size and design of the deck. Wood decks are the most customizable of all decks. You can carve out and shape just about every detail to your liking.

The Finishing Touch: Lighting

For those brave enough to challenge evening mosquitoes with the addition of deck lighting, you will find it’s well worth it. Deck lighting comes in many options. You can choose from post-cap lights, floor lighting and step lighting. The lighting systems we offer come with the option to add additional lighting later as well as the ability to set up timers, dimmers and automatic lights.
